Before and After: Selmer K-Modified Trumpet 1967 Matte and Brushed - Clear Epoxy Lacquer

SOLD: The Selmer K-Modified 24B is a classic professional trumpet and this particular one is in pristine condition. The use of nickel-silver tubing opposite the brass in all the slides has kept this horn in factory condition. This specimen has been finished with a combination matte and brushed finish. All polishing done by hand to preserve the engraving and to minimize material loss. The bell is a classic french-bead and we replaced the adjustable ring on the 3rd valve with a fixed artisan ring. The valve compression is exceptional on all three valves. The slides are smooth and the 1st trigger is handy.

This is a ML Bore. The leadpipe venturi was measured at .349" which is fairly large, but is balanced well with a slower taper in the bell. This makes for a nice compact core with all kinds of overtones. The blow is not tight, but it is not open either. I would describe it as extremely efficient and speaks nicely at low volumes and "barks" at higher volumes.

There are two stories that describe how this horn got its model name: Story 1) The designer of the horn, Keith Ecker specified a change to the receiver, for the US market, so that it was a better match with Bach mouthpieces, hence "K-modified" Story 2) To side-step US tariffs on completed product imports, Selmer shipped "unfinished" horns to the US where a guy named Keith added the final piece to complete the horn, which was the receiver. I am not sure which is true.
