Before and After: 1955 Olds Special Trumpet - Two-Tone Gold/Nickel Epoxy Lacquer - Bright Polished Finish
1955 Olds Special Trumpet - Two-Tone Gold/Clear Epoxy Lacquer - Bright Polished Finish
This 1955 Two-Tone "Olds Special" Trumpet is an example of the exceptional quality of the musical instruments that came out of the Olds factory during the Zig Kanstul era. This horn plays amazingly well, with excellent valve compression. The intonation is marvelous and the sound is deep and rich. In 1955, F. E. Olds & Son made only a few models and the company philosophy was that all models be made meticulously to the same specifications and same high quality as the top of the line models. The Special model was often favored due to it's sleek design, warm sound, upgraded features and incredible intonation, It was made with the same process, quality and some of the key features of the top of the line (Recording model). One such key feature is nickel-silver outer slide tubes to eliminate the corrosion that occurs when two brass tubes are in contact. This is the reason why we can offer a vintage 70 year old horn that is functionally in near factory condition. The tubing is yellow brass with it's large leadpipe venturi (.351") and "D" shaped tuning slide with nickel-silver accents on the top of the valve casing and the mouthpiece receiver.
Finally, this model came with a trombone-style main water key. The sound has a huge core, thick with wonderful overtones. This combination provides a classic, but sophisticated sound that is as contemporary as it is vintage. For the professional and the student alike, this horn is a gem.
This trumpet has exceptional valve compression and a fresh valve alignment. It has a new brushed finish in clear epoxy lacquer.
