Before and After: 1950's Getzen Super Deluxe Trumpet - Brushed with Clear Epoxy Lacquer
1950s Getzen Super Deluxe - Brushed with Clear Epoxy Lacquer
The exact date of manufacture, of these early Getzen trumpets, is unknown because the records were lost in 1963 due to a fire which consumed the entire factory.
We've seen these come up for sale from time to time. However, they always seem to be in rough condition. However, with the tri-color components in this horn and the unique "art-deco" style braces, we wanted to bring one of these horns back to its former glory.
The only issues with this horn were a few solder joint leaks and a rough finish. The bracing and the ferule shapes made the restoration more labor-intensive with all of the crevices, however, once we finished the restoration, we were amazed at the results.
This horn REALLY PLAYS! It has an amazing focused core and is a fantastic LEAD trumpet. The copper tone ring brings awesome projection and the upper register is focused and slots very well up to (at least) double C.
We performed an axial valve alignment using Valentino washers and the valves are smooth and velvety. The valves also have excellent compression.
